Born in 1990, Neda Aydin studied at HFBK Dresden, where she became a master student under Alicja Kwade in 2021, and completed her diploma at Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin in 2024.
Aydin is interested in the forces and structures that shape, challenge, and influence people on both individual and societal levels – such as social norms, expectations, and pressures to conform. These forces possess a dual character: they are not only restrictive or oppressive but also act as catalysts for strength and resistance.
In her practice, Aydin deliberately employs materials whose value, density, hardness, and surface qualities stand in marked contrast to one another. These contrasts create a power dynamic in which the “dominant” material defines the parameters within which the “subordinate” material can operate. The transformations of the materials – responses to applied pressure – reveal, through subtle and aesthetic gestures, the resilience embedded in these processes. Within this interplay, she applies the materials in a site-specific and materially sensitive manner – always in dialogue with the surrounding space and its function.
