With the solo exhibition “MANY LAYERS” AOA;87 pays tribute to one of the most consistent artistic personalities of the present. The 81-year-old Imi Knoebel, born in Dessau, is considered the founder of abstract minimalism in Germany. The grand seigneur titles one of the currently perhaps most beautiful series of paintings in his Oeuvre Anima Mundi: a philosophical term that is one of the central concepts of Western metaphysics. One may see in this the play and coincidence of a mere title, from which little meaning can be taken and which literally remains on the surface. Therefore, for the time being, it is better to leave oneself entirely to the contemplation of these images, which, if successful, indeed lead into the cosmos of a non-objective thinking; a thinking for which the images, strictly speaking, again only give the external occasion. AOA;87 shows, in addition to the Anima Mundi series which is very popular among collectors, a sandwich work from 2004, a complete series of the Munich Bilder Edition and current Big Girl works.
