“Between light and shadow exists mass in all its glory.
Art may (or may not) harvest that energy and release it again at the speed of light.”
Cathrine Lee

Curator Bodo Korsig invited fifteen international contemporary artists to explore the content of the exhibition title BETWEEN LIGHT AND SHADOW. He also specified the format: 50 x 50 cm. Korsig thus presents at AOA;87 the art creation, at times contrasting positions, connected in form as well as content.

“Light and shadow: for many years I have been dealing with this phenomenon, not only with regard to the visual arts, but also conceptually. Man cannot see light as such, but he can see the effects of light, and they are anything but superficial. It starts with the fact that we need light to be able to see, and extends to the influence on our mood level, which depends on light, be it daylight, artificial, good or bad light. […] Curating an exhibition is the same exciting situation for me as going into the studio with an idea and watching the artwork develop and complete itself.”
Bodo Korsig

BETWEEN LIGHT AND SHADOW includes works by Catherine Lee, Fei Cui, Kay Whitney, Carol Robertson, Richard Kaplenig, Peter Wayne Lewis, Mika Natri, Marthe Keller, Jens Gussek, Christiane Löhr, Noriko Ambe, MARCK, Shingo Francis, Asae Soya, and Karol Hurec. The exhibition is accompanied by an illustrated catalog with artist statements on BETWEEN LIGHT AND SHADOW.
