For Gallery Weekend Berlin 2024, AOA;87 presents “MAYBE I’M A FOOL” by the German multimedia artist Holger Schmidhuber.
Through modernity, the world has been transformed.
Max Weber’s quote serves as an entry point into Schmidhuber’s exploration of lost magic in the exhibition “MAYBE I’M A FOOL”. Here, Schmidhuber employs generative design tools and various AI systems to overwhelm digital processes to the extent that phenomena such as hallucination, amnesia, and unconsciousness find pathways to their own efficacy. Ultimately, Schmidhuber returns to painting, surprising viewers with entirely new blends, transforming the “disenchantment of the world” into a fascinating enchantment.
Schmidhuber’s work is characterized by cycles deeply influenced by his intensive engagement with the theme of “memory”. These cycles are interconnected, reflecting not only his artistic evolution but also serving as conveyors of collective experiences and narratives. Alongside his current works, Schmidhuber offers first-time insights into his archive with an impressive retrospective from the series “Controlled by Nature”, “Bauhaus”, and “Deathrow”, all presented on Aludibond.
During Gallery Weekend Berlin 2024, AOA;87 invites guests to meet the artist and preview the exhibition on Thursday before the official opening. “MAYBE I’M A FOOL” officially opens on Friday, and on Saturday evening, there will be a captivating sound performance by Jarii van Gohl. The weekend concludes with an art brunch on Sunday starting at 11:00 AM, providing an ideal opportunity for exchange among art enthusiasts.
