AOA;87 presents a solo exhibition by Berlin-based artist XOOOOX during POSITIONS 2023.

XOOOOX delves into the concept of transience, drawing inspiration from the world around him. In his new series “New Folder,” he utilizes a visual vocabulary composed of both images sourced from the internet and his own photography. His calligraphic reworkings evoke the early days of tagging, adding a nostalgic yet contemporary twist.

“New Folder” offers a profound glimpse into XOOOOX’s personality. Through these images, he weaves narratives that convey a sense of life’s ephemerality and the fleeting nature of beauty. His work extends beyond mere aesthetics, exploring gender dynamics and interpersonal relationships. The competitive pressures within romantic relationships and their emotional highs and lows are depicted with a sometimes militant visual language.

XOOOOX’s unique approach combines various techniques, employing stencils, oil, and photography to create his multilayered compositions. Alongside his current paintings, AOA;87 also showcases his iconic stencil artworks, sprayed onto urban materials like cardboard, metal, or old doors. These pieces, sourced from the cityscape, resonate with both beauty and poignancy, serving as a reminder of life’s impermanence and the profound beauty that can be found within it.
