AOA;87 presents a solo exhibition by Berlin-based artist XOOOOX during POSITIONS 2023. XOOOOX explores in his work the concept of transience of material objects, as well as of interpersonal relationships. For his new series, “New Folder,” the artist uses as his vocabulary images that he has collected over years of research on the internet. The calligraphic reworkings are reminiscent of notes, marks and tags from the early days of his work on the street. “New Folder” is the first time XOOOOX has offered a deep insight into his mind. In these works, he explores the sense of the transience of life and the impermanence of beauty and harmony. He is also concerned with gender dynamics, the competitive pressures of romantic relationships and their emotional ups and downs, sometimes depicted in militant imagery. In addition, XOOOOX presents his iconographic stencil works on found objects from urban spaces such as cardboard, metal or old doors, alongside his current works. The artist’s ouevre is both beautiful and poignant, reminding us that everything in life is ephemeral, but that even in transience there is still great beauty to be found.
