NORIKO AMBE

Noriko Ambe (*1967 in Saitama, Japan) ist eine japanische Künstlerin, die in New York und Saitama, Japan, lebt und arbeitet. Sie erwarb 1990 einen BFA-Abschluss in Ölmalerei an der Musashino Art University in Tokio.

Während ihrer frühen Karriere konzentrierte sich Ambe hauptsächlich auf die Malerei, bevor sie ihre künstlerische Methodik auf ihre bekannten Papierarbeiten mit dem Titel „Works of Linear Actions“ verlagerte. Ihre einzigartigen Werke entstehen durch das Zerschneiden von Hunderten bis Tausenden von Papierbögen, die sorgfältig übereinander geschichtet werden. Das Ergebnis sind filigrane, skulpturale Werke, die an topografische und organische Formen erinnern und bergige Landschaften und Schluchten hervorrufen, die weder geografisch noch zeitlich kategorisiert werden können. Diese Werke übersteigen das Visuelle und offenbaren die inneren Landschaften der Künstlerin.

Der Akt des Schneidens und Schichtens dient als kontinuierliches Motiv in ihrem Werk und ist zentral für ihre konzeptuelle Studie. Durch diesen meditativen, introspektiven Prozess taucht die Künstlerin in ihr tiefstes Inneres ein und visualisiert es in verschiedenen physischen Variationen, wie zum Beispiel in den Serien „Wave“ und „Flat Globe“. Diese wunderbar ruhigen Formationen entfalten ihre atmosphärische Wirkung Schicht für Schicht, indem sie den Betrachter das Gefühl vermitteln, als ob sie eine stratigraphische Untersuchung der innersten Tiefen der menschlichen Psyche durchführen würden, und gleichzeitig Fragen nach der Existenz von Menschheit, Natur und Zeit aufwerfen.

Noriko Ambe wurde in zahlreichen Einzelausstellungen, wie im Aloft At Hermès (Singapur), The FLAG Art Foundation (New York), dem Syracuse University Museum (Syracuse, NY) präsentiert und nahm an Gruppenausstellungen im Museum of Arts and Design (New York, USA), Museum Brandhorst (München), der Manchester Art Gallery (Manchester, UK) und dem Berardo Collection Museum (Lissabon, Portugal) teil. Ihre Werke finden sich in renommierten Sammlungen wie dem Museum of Modern Art und dem Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.“
